Post 9: Entry one – Morocco Study Abroad

To make up my absence I will share with you guys an 8-part mini blog series on my journey to Morocco, followed by getting a look at the Moroccan healthcare industry and resume to regular programming.

I went on a study abroad with my university for a Moroccan history course. Over the course of the series, I will share my reflections and journey on my travel abroad.

The first day consisted of a lot of waking, learning, and creating new bonds with people in our group. I was fortunate enough to be able to bring my camera on my trip to take pictures. This day we had the tour of rabat and saw historical sites and the new projects by the King’s vision. One very interesting historical site we visited was the Hassan tower. This tower was a minaret of an incomplete Mosque, and it was commissioned to be created towards the end of the 12th century in the Almohad Caliphate. Unfortunately, we had to leave early as the king’s police had to close it down for an event. Another place we visited was the Royal palace, where we were able to see the royal guards, but we were not allowed to go near the palace itself. Later we found out that there was a royal unveiling of a hydrocarbon car, and the king is involved so there was some restriction throughout the day. My reflections on this day are not too deep as it is the first day and I am still trying to understand everyone and get used to the environment today. Luckily our group is full of like-minded people in sense that we are figuring out if we are in a fever dream or not. “We are in Africa, across the ocean, in a whole new world” these thoughts ran profusely through our heads as we get ready for a life changing adventure.
