Post 13: Morocco Part 5 – A day in Fes

“Fes is the best” Fes was probably the best city I’ve seen even though we only spent a night there. The Medina in Fes was absolutely amazing, and I felt like as if it was much more diverse than Rabat or tangier Medina. The place itself felt as if it was the food capital of Morocco. The food in the Medina had a certain glow and attraction to it that I’ve never seen before. The aromatics of the various cuisines where unparalleled to the smells of the other Medinas I visited. The sounds and the variety of shops were vastly different. “Balak, Balak!” Which meant to watch out was heard almost every few minutes as a carriage holding goods was bustling through to get to its destination. The rush of the Medina reminded me of my life back in America. Living in New York City was the exact same environment, it was shocking how I somehow felt a little comfortable in that environment. Fes is supposedly considered a little more dangerous, but I believe that is based on how well one can manage an environment. Knowing how to avoid Dodgy people, shrugging off beggars, and ensuring you don’t get lost in the maze that is the Medina are all skills that are honed in NYC. Some of these skills I have to use in Dallas as working as an EMT we see many people trying to take advantage of us if they wanted some narcan or to just cause problems for the heck of it. Overall, many of the negative aspects I mentioned call be shrugged aside and can allow us to enjoy amazingness of Fes.
