Post 10 – Part Two of Morocco

Today we relatively did not do much, but what we did was very insightful. We Visited a university in Rabat and met Moroccan English students. Though I didn’t interact with them much many of them seemed very intelligent. Moroccans and many mainland Europeans seem to speak 3 or more languages very well and I’ve always wondered why that case was, my theory was that it was because they were just simply more intelligent. But after more thought into it. Growing up all over America I was surrounded by English speakers, however in Morocco people are surrounded by people who speak a large variety of languages. I believe the living in America has taken the opportunity for exposer to other languages and allow us the ability to speak numerous languages. Citizens of countries that were previously subjected to colonlism still face a problem today that is known as post colonlism. This term means that after a power has left a nation, they still use their influence in indirect ways to control the economy, government, and people. With Morocco still having heavy French influence after its independence in 1956, not long ago, the French still had a powerful grasp on their economy that still lasts today. This led to Moroccans having to learn French in order to be successful. Today Morocco is slowly leaning away from the French and the newer generation of Moroccans are starting to learn English to seek better opportunities today. In America we do not face these problems and it is very possible to be successful here only knowing English.
